H-section steel is a kind of economical and high-efficiency section bar with more optimized cross-sectional area distribution and more reasonable strength-to-weight ratio. Its section is the same as the English letter "H", so we call it as H steels.
Every parts of H steel are arranged at right angles, so H steels have been applied widely because of its strong bending resistance, simple construction, cost saving and light structure weight in all directions.
H steel is a new and economic type of steel for construction. It has the advantages of large section modules, light-weight and easy-design, comparing with universal beams, which can reduce 30-40% of the building structure.
It is divided into two types: Hot-rolled H Steel and Welded H Steel. Hot-rolled H section Steel includes: HW(Wide Flange),HM(Middle Flange) and HN(Narrow Flange).
HW: The height and flange width is identical basically. It plays a role as column in steel structure.
HM: The height-flange width ratio is about 1.33-1.75. It can be treated as steel frame column, steel frame beam bearing live load in the frame structure construction, e.g platform.
HN: The height-flange width ratio≥2, mostly it is beam.
